Brief Summary of CV

Vera Cuartero accomplished her PhD in Condensed Matter Physics at the Institute of Materials Science of Aragón in 2012. Her research is focused on the correlation of the macroscopic and microscopic properties of magnetoelectric oxides with potential applications in spintronics. This interest brought her at leading European Large Scale Facilities (neutron and synchrotron radiation sources), which gave her a broad science perspective on advanced characterization techniques leading to the study of multifunctional materials.

She was appointed as the first post-doctoral scientist at the X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) beamline at the newly openALBA Synchrotron in Barcelona in 2012.  Later, in 2014, she joined The European Synchrotron (ESRF, Grenoble, France), where she worked at two XAS beamlines (ID24 and BM23). Since then, she has been focused on the study of the evolution of the multiferroic properties of oxides under external stimuli, such as magnetic fields and/or high pressures at low temperatures, in order to look for unexplored ways for enhancing magnetoelectricity.

She is Assistant Professor at Centro Universitario de la Defensa since March 2018.
