Working at the CUD

The Centro Universitario de la Defensa (CUD, University Centre for Defence Studies) is a higher education centre, with state funding (by the Spanish Ministry of Defence) and affiliated with the University of Zaragoza. As regards recruitment, the CUD is an independent public institution, separate from both the Ministry of Defence and the University of Zaragoza.

The CUD was founded with a vocation for excellence in teaching and research, and dedicated to fulfilling its objectives. Not only do we want our students to obtain a good scientific background and professional competence, but we want to ensure that the training we provide complements their military instruction so that our students can acquire the traditional values that characterise our armed forces. Read Reales Ordenanzas.

We have designed a recruitment scheme to create a stable environment, in which staff can feel involved with the aims of the Centre, and which can attract quality university graduates and offer them incentives for their professional development.

Teaching posts (equivalent to Senior Lecturers)

Employment contracts have indefinite duration, and continuity is subject to periodic reviews to verify teaching and research work, as well as commitment to the objectives of the Centre (similar to a 'tenure-track" scheme).   Dedication to teaching and research tasks is similar to that of a contratado doctor (for our category named Profesor) at the University of Zaragoza.

Salaries of the teaching and researching staff are similar to those of a contratado doctor at the University of Zaragoza, if certified with equal merit. As an employee of the CUD, you may seek further accreditation by ANECA for a post as Contratado Doctor, and apply to the ACPUA (Aragonese University Quality Control Agency) for assessment of six-year periods of research activity.
