Creation of the Centre
The system of University Centres for Defence Studies, and in particular, the CUD located in the grounds of the AGM (Academia General Militar), was established by Royal Decree 1723/2008 of 24 October.
The centres are presided over by the Ministry of Defence, through the Under Secretary of Defence, and are located within the grounds of the military academies responsible for officer training.
The CUD in Zaragoza is afilliated with the University of Zaragoza through an agreement signed by the Minister of Defence and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zaragoza on 14 July 2009.
Purpose of the CUD
The purpose of the CUD is to impart classes leading to an official university degree in accordance with the affiliation agreement. The qualification offered initially will be a Degree in Management Engineering.
In addition, the CUD will also offer postgraduate studies and develop lines of research that might be of interest to the armed forces and for peace, security and defence purposes. The CUD will promote staff development and contribute towards scientific research in those studies included in its study plans.
Through its activities, the CUD will have a presence on the scientific, social and cultural scene, especially in Aragon, contributing to its development. At the same time, the CUD will also work together with political, economic, cultural and civic institutions with the aim of building solidarity and improving the cultural and social understanding of all citizens.
