INTRODUCTORY COURSE: GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTMS (GIS)
During the last fortnight of June 2013, the CUD lecturers Alberto García Martín and Mª Teresa Lamelas Gracia gave a course entitled Introduction to Geographic Information Systems organised by the CUD’s Research and Development Office (OPID).
The course was organised into four subject areas, which included a short introduction to GIS and working with gvSIG 1.2 freeware, a presentation of the basic tools to obtain, create and consult geographic information, the correct use of basic analysis functions in both the vector data model, and raster and FTPs between GIS and positioning systems, in traditional handheld GPS devices as well as the new generation of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets).
The course proved extremely popular and was full to maximum capacity with military personnel from the AGM, the Pontoon Regiment, 2nd Castillejos Brigade, Logistics Brigade Zaragoza, 41 Logistics Support Group, 20 Field Artillery Regiment and 72 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment, as well as civilian personnel from the Universidad de Zaragoza
